Ertuğrul was born in 1958. He graduated from İstanbul Technical University, Department of Architecture in 1982. He later received his master's degree in Architectural Design Graduate Program at the İstanbul Technical University in 1986. Upon graduation he founded TYM Architecture (Tasarım Yapı Merkezi Architecture) and continues his design and construction works there ever since.
